Since the events that took place on 23 Oct last year, the political situation in our country is changing between little or more stressful. The celebrations, meetings and gatherings of 23 Oct 2007 sharpened the situation. We wanted to know if Budapest citizens, who are the most concerned, followed the events, where they got informed, and we also asked if they found information sources satisfactory. Results IHalf of Budapest inhabitants (50.9%) paid very close attention to the events on 23 Oct 2007 and 25.0% more or less. 11.2 % said they have not followed more closely than any other news, and 13.0% answered not at all. |

Fidesz voters are represented in higher numbers choosing this option, 62.3% of them paid close attention to the news.
Taking into account the demographic factors, we find significant difference between the two genders. (Chart 2) Men were somewhat more interested in the events than women - 83.8% of the men answered that they had paid close attention to the events (first and second answer), while among women this proportion was 69,6%. Moreover women were represented in higher numbers choosing option "not at all". This was answered by17.4%of woman and 7.3% of men.

We asked the respondents about their source of information. The vast majority of those who followed the reports only used television (65.4%). 15.6% obtained information from more media. |

Fidesz voters claimed that they had actively taken part in the events of 23 Oct, and no uncertain voter claimed the same.
The main sources of online news were index.hu, origo.hu and hirtv.hu. The sites mentioned by internet users: index.hu: 31.7%, origo.hu: 30.7%, hirtv.hu: 29.0%, others: 8.6%. Most popular radio stations were Kossuth, Danubius and Sláger Radio with about 20%. The most watched Tv channels were: RTL Klub (26.2%), Hír TV (23.6%), TV2(21.9%), M1 (21.6%). We asked if they were satisfied with the coverage of the days. Every fifth person who paid close attention to the events could not or did not want answer. Overall, the media receives positive ratings for its reports. 51,3% of those who answered the question said they had been fully satisfied with it. Those who were not satisfied with their information sources (5,3%) (who chose 1 or 2 from 5) had only one source of information, which was television. >> back to the publications |
